Soaring Bear, Ph.D.
Soaring Bear, Ph.D. began collecting data about herbs during the 1970's. After earning his B.S. in Biochemistry with honors (Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude) he studied molecular modeling of topoisomerase interactions with DNA at University of Arizona, leading to a Ph.D in 1998. His research focus on structure activity relationships and chemical interactions provides him with a unique perspective on how herbs work.
As an employee and later, contractor of the Alternative Medicine Foundation from 1998 -2000, Bear helped design and build the prototype HerbMed database. HerbMed has since been completely modified, recategorized, the software rewritten, and the content hugely expanded by a succession of research pharmacologists and outside contractors. Nonetheless Bear's initial editorial contribution is warmly recognized.
Bear is currently employed with the National Library of Medicine making improvements in the MeSH vocabulary of Medline.
