Michael C. Tims, Ph.D. (Candidate)

Michael Tims began working with medicinal plants sixteen years ago as co-owner in a health food store. He trained and practiced as a clinical herbalist. Returning to graduate school to pursue his PhD at the University of Maryland, his initial research was conducted on Mistletoe (Phoradendron leucarpum) and its interactions with its host plant. His current research into complex interactions continues by investigating Fusarium rhizosphere influence on isoquinoline alkaloid formation in Hydrastis canadensis (goldenseal).

He has also worked as a contractor for the Food and Drug Administration Division of Natural Products identifying analytical methods to be used with herbal dietary supplements and investigated introduced mercury in the US dietary supplement market.

He brings a unique perspective combining traditional knowledge and science to the study and understanding of medicinal plants and their uses.
